Almost as soon as Thailand's Constitutional Court ordered the progressive Move Forward Party disbanded and its top leaders banned from politics for 10 years, the People's Party, a new upstart party founded by former Move Forward members, took root as the new face of the Thai opposition.
One hundred and forty-three former members of the dissolved party joined forces to found the new party, a day after the court dissolved Move Forward, ruling that it had committed treason for an electoral promise made in 2023 to undo the country's strict law against royal defamation.
