Indonesian maid’s torture highlights lack of protection for domestic workers


Siti Khotimah left her hometown to work as a domestic worker in Jakarta. She wanted to help pay off her family’s debts. Instead, she found herself in a living hell. Her employer abused her – scalding her with boiling water and forcing her to drink dog urine. Her employer and eight other people got 3.5 to 4 years of jail for what they did. But Siti says it’s not enough. Something else needs to change.
