This elephant was donated by Thailand to Sri Lanka in 2001. In a few days, it will be flown to Thailand for urgent medical treatment. It spent years living in a Buddhist temple in Kalutara until animal welfare activists discovered it was in poor health and given inadequate care. It was then moved to the national zoo in Colombo. As Sri Lanka lacks the medical facilities it needs, the elephant will be treated in Thailand instead.
