Nuclear energy in the Philippines: the way forward or a step back?

The Philippines is home to Southeast Asia’s only nuclear facility. However, the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP), then Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos’ project, has not been used since it was completed in 1984 due to safety concerns. Recently, his son, current president Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., announced that the Philippines will work with South Korea to explore the revival of the plant. Is nuclear energy the way forward for the Philippines, or is it a step back?
