In Thailand, refugees and asylum seekers are considered illegal migrants. Come September 22, a new National Screening Mechanism will give approved refugees and asylum seekers “protected person” status. With this status, they will get a temporary residence permit, and access to healthcare and education. Some refugees and human rights activists think this is too good to be true.
